Mack Brown is a Brooklyn-based butch

Mack builds large sharp musicals, weird little coming-of-age plays, and trans-genre-transsexual-horror-comedy. Mack prioritizes rehearsal ecosystems; yielding bold, deliberate work forged in collective ownership, mutual flourishing, and rigorous attention to detail. They’re also really, really good at lock-picking tricky moments in new plays.

They are a Resident Artist at Roundabout Theatre Company, where they were the Directing Fellow for RTC’s 2022-23 season, and currently lead the Roundabout Directors Group. Mack has been an associate and assistant director on and off Broadway to directors including Bartlett Sher, David Mendizábal, Tina Landau, and Trip Cullman. Mack also works at Convergence, a publication that works with grassroots organizers and activists to produce media that sharpens our collective practice.

Most summers, Mack serves as an Associate Artistic Director to the students at The Summer School for the Performing Arts in Massachusetts. This is their 19th summer with the program, and their Boston accent always comes back.
